Radhika Apte and Naveen Andrews Cast in Justin Lin’s Film About ‘Uncontacted’ Tribe in Andaman Islands
- The film tells the story of Christian evangelist John Allen Chau, who believes he has been chosen to save the souls of the uncontacted tribe of North Sentinel Island.
Indian actress, writer, director and producer Radhika Apte and British-American actor Naveen Andrews have been cast in “Last Days,” the next film from the Fast & Furious franchise’s Justin Lin. They will star opposite actor Sky Yang.
The film is based on the Outside Magazine article “The Last Days of John Allen Chau” by journalist Alex Perry, according to Deadline. It is a story of “John Allen Chau, who believes he has been chosen to save the souls of the uncontacted tribe of North Sentinel Island,” the report adds. “Designated as a protected site by the Indian government, John sets on a harrowing journey to proselytize the Sentinelese in his desperate search for identity, purpose, and belonging.”
Written by Ben Ripley, the film has just kicked off production in Thailand. In addition to directing, Lin is producing through his Perfect Storm Entertainment, overseen by Salvador Gatdula and Andrew Schneider. Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson will also produce alongside Clayton Townsend and Guja Quaranta. Outside Magazine, Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ George Heller, Luke Speed and Perry will serve as executive producers.
Apte most recently starred in the Hindi spy comedy “Mrs. Undercover,” as well as the Apple TV+ drama series “Shantaram.” She’ll be seen in Karan Kandhari’s dramedy “Sister Midnight,” which is premiering at Cannes. The film revolves around “an arranged marriage,” which “spirals into darkness as the spineless husband watches his wife morph into a ruthless, feral force within their marital confines,” according to IMbD.
Andrews who was seen in Hulu’s award-winning miniseries “The Dropout” opposite Amanda Seyfried will be next seen in “The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh,” an upcoming comedy series for Amazon Freevee. Other notable credits for the actor include J.J Abrams’ iconic ABC series “Lost” and Anthony Minghella’s “The English Patient.”
