An Indian American tech entrepreneur was violently assaulted in San Francisco’s Mission District. Vishnu Hari, co-founder of the San Francisco-based 3D simulation engine firm Ego, was found bleeding from the head on Jan. 18, according to a press release from the San Francisco Police Department.
According to the SFPD, Hari was “involved in an argument with another individual that turned physical, leading to him being struck in the head with a metal pipe.” He was the transported to a local hospital for further medical attention. “The suspect has yet to be apprehended despite the efforts of SFPD,” the release added.
In a Feb. 1 post on X, Hari wrote that he was recently discharged from the ICU “after traumatic brain injury due to a man hitting me on the back of my head with a metal pipe, completely unprovoked.” He has partial blindness in his right eye, and impaired hearing in his left ear, with an expected recovery time spanning several months, he wrote. His phone and wallet were not stolen, he write, but his jewelry “was ripped off.” He further mentioned that he’s “confused” as to why the San Francisco institutions “refuse to take this seriously,” adding that he has “no memory of the incident” and that he “pieced this info together from friends who spoke to the police.”
The SFPD is investigating the investigation, but no arrests have been made yet. “The SFPD is working to make an arrest in this case, at which point we will work closely with our partners in the district attorneys office,” the press release said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD (Case# 250-034-601).
