- The duo has collaborated on several projects including âRust,â the film whose production was halted last year when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed from a bullet discharged from a gun that contained a live round.
Indian American actor and producer Anjul Nigam and Alec Baldwin have come together to form Persona Entertainment, a film and TV production company, Deadline reported. Their first project is a psychological thriller titled âFalse Awakening,â starring and executive produced by Baldwin. Nigam, who will star in a supporting role, will produce the film.
According to Deadline, the film âabout a man whose waking nightmares start to fuse with his everyday lifeâ is headed to the upcoming Cannes film festival. It is written and directed by Benjamin Tomson.
Providing a synopsis of the film, Deadline says Baldwin âwill play a psychologist who compels the man to tap his higher powers in confronting his past and preventing his life from spiraling into a violent psychosis.â
Nigam and Baldwin were among the producers of Joel Souzaâs âRust,â the film whose production was halted last year when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed from a bullet discharged from a gun that contained a live round.
In a statement provided to media outlets including the Los Angeles Times, Nigam said heâs been working with Baldwin for âseveral years,â adding that âheâs been a tremendous talent to be in business with.â He said the formation of the company âgrew organically from the natural progression of things. The ride can be a roller coaster and Iâm thrilled to be sharing it with Alec.â
Nigam and Baldwin have worked together on Souza’s earlier film âCrown Vic.â They also co-star in âSupercellâ and â97 Minutes.â Nigam serves as an executive producer on both films.
The Indian American is known for his recurring role as Dr. Raj, âthe psychiatric doctorâ on the ABC medical drama âGrey’s Anatomy.â His other noteworthy credits include being a producer, writer, and actor in the film âGrowing Up Smith,â about an Indian family who moves to America with hopes of living the American Dream. He also produced âLouisiana Caviar,â Cuba Gooding Jr.âs directorial debut.
He was one of the supporting leads in the CBS/Hallmark Hall of Fame movie âBack When We Were Grownups,â and was one of four leads in âThe First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest.â He co-starred with Bill Murray and James Spader in the Universal/StudioCanal feature comedy âSpeaking of Sex.â
In television, he was a regular in the role of nurse Manoj Nakshi on the ABC medical drama âMDs,â and one of the leads in the ABC miniseries âNetforce” and in Showtime’s âSilver Strand.â
