Farhan Akhtar to Direct All-female Road Trip Film ‘Jee Le Zaara’

  • The movie will star Bollywood A-listers Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.

Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt will be seen together for the first time in Farhan Akhtar’s road trip film, Jee Le Zaara,” which will begin shooting in 2022. Written by the Akhtar siblings – Farhan and Zoya – along with Reema Kagti. The three will co-produce the film, along with Ritesh Sidhwani.

Announcing the project, Akhtar wrote, “Did someone say road trip? Thrilled to announce my next film as director and what better day than 20 years of Dil Chahta Hai to do it. #JeeLeZaraa with @priyankachopra #KatrinaKaif @aliaa08 will commence filming in 2022 and I cannot wait to get this show on the road (sic).”

The Aug. 10 announcement coincided with the 20th anniversary  “Dil Chahta Hai,” written and directed by Farhan Akhtar.

Chopra also took to her social media handles to write about her association with the “different, cool, never been done before” film. Noting that there “are not enough Hindi movies that are female multi-starters,” she wrote about how she met with Kaif and Bhatt in February 2020, “just before the world shut down, to discuss who we could trust to bring this vision to life for us and our choice was unanimous… Farhan and Ritesh, Zoya and Reema,” she wrote. “This one is to sisterhood… to friendship and to breaking the mold!! Can’t wait to get on the road with Aloo and Katty. My heart’s smiling. See you at the movies.” She also shared a photo of the three during their February meeting.

Chopra was part of Farhan Akhtar’s directorial venture “Don, starring Shah Rukh Khan. She also shared screen space with Farhan Akhtar in “Dil Dhadakne Do” and “The Sky Is Pink.” While Alia has worked with Zoya Akhtar and Katgi’s Tiger Baby Films for “Gully Boy,” Kaif was part of an ensemble cast in “Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara.”

Farhan Akhtar was last seen in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s sports drama “Toofan,” where he was lauded for his performance as a goonda-turned-boxer-turned family man.
