Season 2 of Disney Junior’s ‘Mira, Royal Detective’ to Premiere on April 5

  • Comedian, YouTuber and late-night host Lilly Singh and world-renowned tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain among guest voice cast.

The second season of Disney Junior’s animated series “Mira, Royal Detective,” is gearing up for its debut on April 5. Set in the magical Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the series follows the brave and resourceful Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective by the queen and travels throughout her kingdom to help royals and commoners alike. Joining Mira on her adventures are her two mongoose sidekicks, Mikku and Chikku. The series debuted on Disney Junior channel and programming block in the U.S on March 20, 2020. 

“Mira, Royal Detective” features an all-star cast of prominent South Asian-origin actors including Freida Pinto, Kal Penn, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Hannah Simone, Jameela Jamil, Aparna Nancherla and Aasif Mandvi. Leila Ladiner voices Mira. Recurring guest stars include Kunal Nayyar, Hari Kondabolu and Karen David.

Comedian, YouTuber and late-night host Lilly Singh is among guest voice cast for season two. Joining Singh are Ritesh Rajan (“Definition Please,” Disney’s “The Jungle Book”), Aly Mawji (“Silicon Valley”), Tiya Sircar (“The Good Place”), Usman Ally (“Lifeline”) and world-renowned tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain. 

Season two will also include episodes celebrating the festivals of Teej and Dasara, as well as four extended-length music- and dance-filled specials.

The second season will include an episode highlighting the Eid al-Fitr on May 3. In the episode, titled “The Eid Mystery,” Mira’s friend Sadia asks for her help in solving the case when they find a lost holiday Eid gift envelope on the ground. Starring in the episode is recurring cast member Rizwan Manji and  his real-life daughter, Ayana Manji as Mr. Khan and his daughter Sadia, along with Zehra Fazal and Kausar Mohammed. Cultural consulting firm SILA Consulting advised on the episode.

Season two will also include episodes celebrating the festivals of Teej and Dasara, as well as four extended-length music- and dance-filled specials.  Earlier this month, the series aired a Holi-themed episode to celebrate the festival of colors on March 27. In that episode, Mira must follow the colorful clues in order to save the town’s Holi festival.

Emmy Award-nominated Sascha Paladino is executive producer of the series, which was developed by Becca Topol, who also serves as story editor and co-producer. IW Group’s Shagorika Ghosh Perkins is the series’ cultural consultant and consulting producer. Additional consultants include Bollywood dancer and choreographer Nakul Dev Mahajan and music producer Deepak Ramapriyan. Emmy Award nominees Matthew Tishler and Jeannie Lurie write and produce the original songs, and Amritha Vaz serves as composer. The series is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Junior, with animation provided by Technicolor India.

“Mira, Royal Detective” will air on April 5 at 5pm EDT on Disney Junior and DisneyNOW, with a new episode airing every Monday for eight weeks after.
