Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Launch Sona, a New Indian Restaurant in New York City
- The actress shares information about her new venture and her involvement in the venture — from contributing to its design, the menu, music and even its name.
Hollywood transplant from Bollywood, actress-author-singer-producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas has added another feather to her already full cap – a foray into the restaurant biz. On March 6, the star introduced her fans to SONA, a new restaurant that’s set to open in New York City in late March.
“I’m thrilled to present to you SONA, a new restaurant in NYC that I poured my love for Indian food into. SONA is the very embodiment of timeless India and the flavors I grew up with,” “The White Tiger” star wrote on Instagram. “SONA is opening later this month, and I can’t wait to see you there!” she added, praising the “delicious and innovative menu,” which will take diners “on a food journey through my amazing country.”
New York-based renowned chef, restaurateur, author as well as culinary consultant Hari Nayak, will be the head chef at SONA.
In addition to sharing a glimpse of the restaurant’s storefront, Chopra Jonas, 38, posted two photos from a small prayer ceremony to “bless the space” in 2019 — which was attended by her husband, pop singer- songwriter Nick Jonas and her mother Madhu Chopra.
In a show of support, Chopra Jonas’s father-in-law was one of the first to celebrate the star’s big news.”Congratulations,” Kevin Jonas Sr. wrote on his Instagram story, before playfully asking a very important question: “When do we eat?” “Anytime senior!” the actress replied promptly.

She also gave a shout out to her friends and business partners. “This endeavor would not have been possible without the leadership of my friends Maneesh Goyal and David Rabin. Thank you to our designer Melissa Bowers and the rest of the team for realizing this vision so clearly!”
Goyal also shared an appreciative post, calling Chopra Jonas the “creative force” behind the new business. “Opening a restaurant is a team effort for sure. I’m gonna spend the next few posts proudly sharing the people who brought SONA to life,” he posted on Instagram alongside two photos of the pair. “First, my kind friend @priyankachopra, who has been the creative force behind SONA. There is no one who better—and more boldly—personifies ‘global Indian’ than Pri. SONA is so lucky to have her in our corner,” hea dded. Goyal also noted that Chopra Jonas was very hands-on while the restaurant’s concept was being developed. “From the design, to the menu, to the music, to even the name, Priyanka has her fingerprints all over SONA,” he wrote. An exuberant Goyal also noted, “Love you dear Pri! Our baby is finally ready for the world to see! We’re about to have a lot of fun. See you all soon on 20th St! @sonanewyork.”
Chopra Jonas’s, new memoir, “Unfinished,” hit shelves last month. Even though Chopra Jonas has forayed into entrepreneurship, she previously opened up to PEOPLE about how she’s currently focusing on her acting career. “Right now I have my other babies coming out—my book and my movies and my TV show,” she said. “It’s taken me 10 years of pounding the pavement in America to be at a place where I’m, doing the kind of work I was looking for,” she added. “I’m sort of reveling in the amazing work I’m doing. I think that’s my priority at the moment.”
In addition to her recent efforts as a restauranteur, Chopra has several film projects currently in the pipeline. She is currently filming the series “Citadel” in London. The actress is also set to lead the cast of the upcoming romantic drama “Text for You”, which will see her acting alongside “Outlander” star Sam Heughan as well as Canadian singer Celine Dion. The entertainment industry rumor mills are also agog with news that Chopra Jonas has been added to the cast of the forthcoming “Matrix” film; her role has not been specified as of yet.
