Hoboken, New Jersey mayor Ravi Bhalla was easily elected to another four-year term on Nov. 2, in what is described as an “exceptionally rare uncontested mayoral race.” His team of City Council candidates — Joe Quintero, Jim Doyle, and Emily Jabbour — also won their seats.

“Thank you, Hoboken! What an incredible team,” Bhalla tweeted after the win.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Bhalla and his team worked around the clock to ensure that Hoboken shut down to stem the spread of the virus. Some of the other initiatives include expanding the HOP bus service, acquiring additional open space at 800 Monroe for an additional park in the third ward, and moving forward on the Northwest Resiliency Park to become New Jersey’s largest resiliency park.

Bhalla first set his roots in Hoboken at the age of 26, “a bachelor fresh out of law school starting his first job at a small law firm in Newark, New Jersey,” according to his profile on his website.

He earned national recognition in the New York Times for his legal advocacy after suffering a violation of his own constitutional and civil rights during a jail visit to a client. “The incident motivated him to lead a successful campaign to reform the federal government’s visitation policies at correctional facilities nationwide,” his profile said.
