Where is Nitheesha Kandula? Indian Student From Hyderabad Missing From California Since Past Week

  • A student at at California State University, San Bernardino, she was last seen on May 28 in Los Angeles.

Police are seeking the public’s help to find a 23-year-old Indian student who has been missing from California. Nitheesha Kandula, a California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) student, went missing on May 28. She was last seen in Los Angeles, CSUSB police chief John Guttierez, said in a June 1 post on X. 

Originally from Hyderabad, Kandhula is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, and around 160 pounds (72.5 kgs) in weight with black hair and black eyes. According to the statement, she was possibly driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla with a California license plate, the color of which was unknown.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the CSUSB Police Department at (909) 538-7777, or the LAPD’s Southwest Division at (213) 485-2582.

The news of Kandula’s disappearance comes amid multiple cases of Indian students going missing and later found dead in mysterious circumstances. Last month, a 26-year-old Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi of Telangana was reported missing in Chicago.

Earlier in April, 25-year-old student Mohammad Abdul Arfath of Hyderabad was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio. A month before, in March, Amarnath Ghosh, a 34-year-old trained classical dancer from India, was shot dead in St Louis, Missouri.

Sameer Kamath, a 23-year-old Indian American student at Purdue University, was found dead in a nature preserve in Indiana on Feb. 5. On February 2, Vivek Taneja, a 41-year-old Indian IT executive, suffered life-threatening injuries during an assault outside a restaurant in Washington. And in January, 18-year-old Indian American Akul Dhawan, a University of Illinois student was found unresponsive outside a campus building. It was later revealed that he died due to acute alcohol intoxication and prolonged exposure to extremely cold temperatures.
