Alia Bhatt in Black Velvet Sabyasachi Sari Attends Special Screening of ‘Poacher’ in London

  • The actress is the executive producer of Richie Mehta’s Amazon original investigative crime series.

Richie Mehta’s Amazon original investigative crime series “Poacher” was screened last week at an exclusive screening in London, ahead of its Feb. 23 release. Bollywood actress, who is executive producer, was in attendance at the Feb. 16 event. She made quite a statement draped in a black velvet Sabyasachi sari with a signature sleeveless blouse. She poured it with a stacked pearl choker and matching earrings, a fiery red lipstick and a low bun. 

The event included a post-screening discussion on the film. Bhatt participated along with Mehta, Manish Menghani, director, content licensing at Prime Video India, and QC Entertainment’s principals Raymond Mansfield and Sean McKittrick.

The conversation focused on the making of the investigative crime series, the research undertaken by Mehta, and how he balanced fact and fiction to maintain authenticity to the real events that transpired. The team reinforced that while “Poacher” is an important story that is engaging and thought-provoking, it will also entertain and influence change.

Based on true events, “Poacher” unearths the largest ivory poaching ring in Indian history,” according to Amazon. The cast includes Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in the lead.

Celebrities at the event were Freida Pinto, Gurinder Chadha, Meera Syal, Anu Menon, Soni Razdan, and Shaheen Bhatt along with filmmakers, members from wildlife protection organizations and media attended the special preview.

Through her Eternal Sunshine Production, Bhatt earlier  issued a statement noting that “the impact of ‘Poacher’was deeply personal, and Richie’s portrayal of the urgent issue of wildlife crime resonated strongly with me and the team.” She told the Press Trust of India that she’s “confident the series  will serve as an eye-opener, delivering a powerful message to be more compassionate and considerate towards all living beings,” adding that the series is “a call to embrace coexistence,” 

Bhatt started her own production house in 2021. Her first production “Darlings,” which she also starred in, was in collaboration with the Shah Rukh Khan-owned Red Chillies Entertainment. The film also starred Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah in titular roles.
