Kumail Nanjiani’s Desi Avatar in Marvels’s ‘Eternals’ Does a Hrithik Roshan
- First teaser of the film shows the Pakistani American actor in a Bollywood-like dance sequence.
Looks like Kumail Nanjiani is channeling his desi side in Marvel’s “Eternals.” The first trailer of the film, launched this week, shows Nanjiani, who will be seen as Kingo, in a Bollywood-like dance sequence. Academy Award–winner Chloé Zhao’s highlight anticipated film is touted as the most diverse film in the marvels franchise. Spanning a thousand of years, “Eternals,” tell the story of a group of immortal beings forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy — The Deviants. The film is gearing for a Nov. 5 release.
In an earlier interview, while talking about the film’s diverse lineup, Nanjiani had told The Hollywood Reporter: “Among the movie’s unexpected set-pieces is a Bollywood dance sequence, with some 50 dancers.” He added: “When I walked onto the set and saw a huge group of brown people who were going to be in a Marvel movie, I felt such gratitude towards Chloé for creating the situation. The scene was full of joy.”
As per a tweet by Eternals India, first Indian fan-page of the film, Nanjiani cited Hrithik Roshan as one of his inspirations for the role of Kingo, an Eternal that becomes a world-famous Bollywood actor.
Twitter naturally went a little crazy seeing Nanjiani’s desi avatar. A user named Apps tweeted: “i’m most excited about kumail nanjiani’s bollywood item song on the #Eternals.”
Another netizen Karthik wrote in a tweet: “Kumail doing a bollywood dance number? COUNT ME TF IN!!!!!!!”
Similarly, a tweet by Adnan Ahmed said: “My only takeway from the #TheEternals trailer: “… Is @kumailn doing a Bollywood song in a #Marvel movie??”
And a tweet by Colin DCunha said: “I want to see the behind-the-scenes of Chloe Zhao directing this ?!!!! @kumailn as a Bollywood hero in #Eternals !!
