The Prodigal Daughter: The Hindu American Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard Joins Fox News

  • The 2020 presidential candidate, and the first Hindu American in U.S. Congress, she has been a fixture on Fox News, attacking Democrats since long before she left its ranks.

Tulsi Gabbard, former Hawaii congresswoman, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and the first Hindu American in Congress, is joining Fox News as a paid contributor. The move comes a month after she left the Democratic Party. A Fox News representative told Los Angeles Times that Gabbard “signed a deal Monday (Nov. 14) and will start appearing on its programs next week.”

In a video posted on Twitter on Oct. 11, Gabbard, who was once a supporter of Bernie Sanders, said she can “ no longer remain in today’s Democratic party that is under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers who are driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by radicalizing every issue and stoking anti-white racism.”

The former congresswoman has been a fixture on Fox News, attacking Democrats since long before she left its ranks. She has appeared as a frequent guest on the conservative-leaning cable channel. On Nov. 14, she guest hosted Tucker Carlson Tonight, the highest-rated primetime show on Fox News, which does not hesitate to dabble in white supremacist perspectives.

During her segments on Fox, she has repeatedly criticized the Democrats, including President Biden, allegedly for escalating tensions with Moscow. She has been openly cozy with Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly by supporting his brutal suppression of anti-Assad forces in Syria. One can now expect her to join Tucker Carlson and attack U.S. support for Ukraine in that country’s existential war with Russia.

For the midterms, Gabbard had endorsed and campaigned for election-denying Arizona Republicans — Senate candidate Blake Masters and gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, both of whom lost in highly-publicized races. She also endorsed Republican Joe Kent in the hotly contested race in Southwest Washington’s third district, as well as unsuccessful Nevada U.S. Senate candidate Adam Laxalt.

In February, “she appeared at the Conservative Political Action Committee, the largest organizing conservative conference in the world. “Earlier this year, she was criticized by members of the Republican Party, including Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) and Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah), for spreading Russian misinformation about U.S. Biolabs in Ukraine,” as reported by The Hill.

Gabbard, who served in the House from 2013 to the end of 2020, ran an unsuccessful White House campaign in the 2020 Democratic primary. She has a sizable following among those who identify themselves as Hindu Americans and is said to have close ties with Prime Minister Modi. Gabbard enjoys strong support from several Hindu organizations including the Hindu American Foundation.
