Councilwoman Snehal Patel Announces Bid for Mayor of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas

  • If elected, the Indian American wants to use her background in policy and environmental issues to guide the city through a sustainable plan for growth.

After serving two terms in the city council, Snehal Patel has filed her bid to run for mayor of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas in the upcoming May 1 election. Patel was first appointed by Mayor Garry Manitzas and the city council in 2016 as a council member in Place 5.

“It has been a privilege to serve on the council since June 2016,” she told The Boerne Star. “Fair Oaks Ranch is a beautiful town with a rich history and a deep sense of community.”

Born and raised in Tanzania, Patel moved to Texas more than 32 years ago, and she and her family now proudly call Fair Oaks Ranch home. Patel and her husband Arnoldo Medina are committed to keeping Fair Oaks Ranch a safe, beautiful, community-driven place to raise their three sons, according to her website

“I see my commitment on the city council as an investment toward ensuring that the special qualities that drew all of us to Fair Oaks Ranch are maintained now and in the long-term,” she told The Boerne Star.

In her interview with the paper, Patel outlined her top three priorities if elected mayor as elevating engagement and collaboration within the community, bringing focus to core infrastructure issues and strategic initiatives facing the city and addressing transportation issues and growth in Fair Oaks Ranch. “As my track record shows, I will be a tireless advocate for the city,” she said. “Every step of the way, I will be listening to residents with an open mind and an open heart.”

As a Fair Oaks Ranch resident, Patel said her number one priority is preserving the quiet beauty of the Hill Country while addressing the needs of its residents. “Given the need for strong, transparent and conscientious governance today,” Patel told the paper that she would ensure that every citizen was heard and that government decisions were transparent and made with the highest level of integrity, compassion and accountability.

As stated on her campaign website, with the city bracketed by two major highways, Patel will address the exponential traffic increase that is projected as growth comes to the area. She will advocate for Fair Oaks Ranch to have a voice in those transportation decisions. As mayor, Patel says on her campaign website that she would “strive to preserve the unique charm of the city as it faces the challenges that come with being a part of one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.”

With a background in policy and environmental issues, Patel is poised to use her expertise to guide the city through a sustainable plan for growth. As a council member, Patel said she initiated an advisory committee for a citizen-driven code of conduct, and with the collaboration of her council, that project will move forward this year. Patel said she also worked alongside council, staff and the community on a number of significant strategic initiatives, including assessing the city’s critical infrastructure and planning for a sustainable city that will meet the needs of its citizens. “Our city is at an important juncture,” she told The Boerne Star. “As we consider these decisions, we need to remember where we came from and stay true to the city’s core mission of an autonomous community built on fiscal restraint.”
