Indian American Jersey Girl Emily Shah Debuts in Bollywood With ‘Jungle Cry’

Indian American actress Emily Shah’s Bollywood debut “Jungle Cry” is finally getting a U.S. release. The film is all set for a May 20 theatrical release across the country. 

Shah plays the role of a Rugby physiotherapist in the film, based on true events, that tells the story of 12 underprivileged tribal orphans from Odisha, who play sports barefoot, and yet, go on to win the prestigious Rugby World Cup in England. 

Directed by Sagar Ballary, and starring Abhay Deol, Atul Kumar, Stewart Wright, and Julian Lewis Jones, the film has cameos by renowned Rugby players as well. 

Chicago-born, New Jersey-raised is the daughter of an Indian father and a Scottish mother. She trained at Madhumati Film and Dance Academy in Mumbai as well as the New York Film Academy.

She previously starred in “Fortune Defies Death,” directed by Jennifer Hulum. She has assisted Clint Eastwood on “Jersey Boys” and later went on to assist in other blockbusters such as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Monster Trucks,” and “Fast & Furious 7.”

In 2014, she became the youngest contestant to be crowned Miss New Jersey USA. A graduate of California State University with a degree in Entertainment Media Management, Shah also studied theater art at Lee Strasberg’s Institute of Film and Theater.
