Trinidadian Man From Queens Indicted for Raping 13-year-old Girl He Met Online

  • Andrew Ramsaroop, 30, allegedly met the teen on Snapchat, and then made plans to meet her.

Andrew Ramsaroop from the South Ozone Park neighborhood in Queens, New York, was arrested last week for raping a 13-year-old girl. The 30-year-old was charged with second-degree rape, second-degree criminal sexual act, and endangering the welfare of a child, news reports said, citing police.

The Trinidad and Tobago-born Ramsaroop allegedly met the teen on Snapchat. He then made plans to meet her. They met on May 13 at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, news reports said. “At that time, he tried to coax the girl and her friend into his vehicle but was rebuffed,” investigators told the New York Post.

Later on the same day, he met her at a playground in Hauppauge where he raped her, the Post added. He was arrested that evening after the girl informed a school official about the rape and the school notified the police.

Ramsaroop spent the night in the Sixth Precinct and was arraigned on May 14 at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip. Prosecutors told the court that Ramsaroop drove to Suffolk County looking for sex and knew the girl was 13. He admitted to the allegations in a written statement, prosecutors said, news reports said.

There’s also speculation that additional charges may be filed on Ramsaroop because he told police he persuaded the girl to send him explicit photos and videos. A court-appointed attorney said Ramsaroop had no criminal record. Bail was set at $150,000 cash, $300,000 bond or $1.5 million partial bail.
