Three Members of Indian American Family in N.J. Found Dead in Backyard Pool
Three people, including an 8-year-old girl, were found dead in a swimming pool at their East Brunswick, New Jersey home, June 22. The police have not released the victims names, but have identified them as a 62-year-old man, identified as an uncle, a 32-year-old woman and her daughter. All three are members of the same family and lived at the home on Clearview Road.
Police responded to a 911 call made by a neighbor who heard screams from the backyard. All the deceased were reportedly taken out of the pool. CPR was done and they were all pronounced dead in the backyard. News reports said that other family members were inside the home at the time of their deaths.

A spokeswoman for the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office declined to reveal if they were Indian Americans, but neighbor Vishal Makim told News12 that the family belonged to the same part of India as him, and that they spoke the same language. Video footage from news channels shows members of the family consoling each other and gathering outside the home.
The UK Daily News has identified the family as Bharat Patel, 62, his daughter-in-law Nisha Patel, 33, and her unnamed daughter, 8.
“This is a devastating day for our entire community. It is too early to determine exactly what happened. We are working with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office and will release information as it develops,” said East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco.
The family had moved into the home just a month ago. The UK Daily Mail estimates that the house was purchased for $451,000.
According to a News12 report, the above ground pool was just serviced and was ready for the summer.
Makim told the news channel: “We were so excited for them, it’s the right weather you should get it done and it’s such a bad sad day.”
