Indian American Man From Andhra Pradesh Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train in New Jersey

Friends and family of an Indian American man fatally struck by an Amtrak train are reaching out to the community to raise funds. Sreekanth Digala of Plainsboro, New Jersey, died on Feb. 28 when an Amtrak train hit him near Princeton Junction., nj.com reported.

He was hit at 6:54 p.m., as he was walking on the tracks just east of the Princeton Junction station by a train No. 178, which was en route to Boston from Washington, D.C., Amtrak officials told nj.com.

Originally from Piler in Annamayya district in Andhra Pradesh, the 39-year-old is survived by his wife Suvarchala and 10-year-old son Aneesh.

“Sreekanth is the only breadwinner for his family and the sole responsible person for his 70+ year old parents and in-laws down in India,” organizers of the GoFundMe wrote. The described him as “a very good human being and a hardworking individual,” who is “free-spirited, full of life, and always willing to help.”

The money raised through the fundraiser would go “directly to his family for their future needs like housing, education, and childcare,” the organizers said. As of March 7, the fundraiser has collected $106,520. The goal is to raise $250,000.
