Vir Das to Team Up With Netflix for 5th Comedy Special Focusing on Happiness
- The Indian comedian and actor has earlier teamed with the streaming platform for multiple projects, including International the Emmy Award-winning “Landing,” “Abroad Understanding,” “Losing It,” and “For India.”
Indian comedian and actor Vir Das is teaming up once again with streaming platform Netflix for a comedy special, the streaming platform confirmed today (Oct. 16). This is Das’ fifth special with Netflix and will focus happiness. “As he moves from familiar stages to unexpected settings, he uncovers a profound truth: kindness is the only true universal language,” Netflix said in a statement. “In an era where roasts dominate the comedy landscape, Vir boldly challenges the norm by embracing joy and encouraging the world to share happiness freely,” the statement added.
Das and Netflix have earlier teamed up for multiple projects, including International the Emmy Award-winning “Landing,” “Abroad Understanding,” “Losing It,” and “For India.” He told Business Standard that he felt “honored to be able to showcase the Indian comedy on the global stage.”
Das, who recently completed his international “Mind Fool” tour. shared details of the yet untitled special as well with the publication, describing it as “an unapologetic, direct shot of happiness to the heart.” He said “the collaboration will try to bring something fresh to the comedy by sharing stories and experiences celebrating love and kindness and showing the world that laughter is the universal language.”
Next month, Das will become the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards, to be held in New York City on Nov. 25. In an instagram post expressing his gratitude for the honor, he also announced that he’s ditching the big designers for his outfits for the award function, snd invited new talents to design outfit. “Alright folks. I’m going to be the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards,” he wrote. “I’m going to wear something Indian from home. I’m also not going to wear a fancy designer. They have enough cash and clients. So we’re gonna launch someone new.”
Das was nominated in the comedy category in 2021 for his special “Vir Das: For India .” He won last year for his most recent Netflix comedy special “Landing.” Additionally, he has created, produced and starred in multiple series including the ABC spy drama-comedy “Whiskey Cavalier,” the thriller “Hasmukh” for Netflix and the travel show “Jestination Unknown” for Amazon. He also starred in Judd Apatow’s “The Bubble” and is currently developing his own single-camera comedy with CBS Studios and Andy Samberg.
