Indian Graduate Student at the University of Chicago Among 30 Obama Foundation Scholars

  • Nishit Shukla, a climate change leader and co-founder of Fundraising Platform ReHive, is among 30 people from around the world who have the opportunity to take their work to the next level.

Nishit Shukla, the co-founder of ReHive, is among the fifth cohort of Obama Foundation Scholars, the Chicago-based nonprofit announced on Aug 30. He is among 30 emerging leaders from around the world who will study at either Columbia University or the University of Chicago for the 2022-2023 academic year. Shukla is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy.

“The scholars will participate in a unique set of activities led by each academic institution and will jointly participate in foundation-led leadership development programming that aims to provide training, networking activities, and individualized support as they work to expand their efforts after graduation,” the foundation said. Additionally, the program will give” rising leaders from the United States and around the world who are already making a difference in their communities the opportunity to take their work to the next level through an immersive curriculum that brings together academic, skills-based, and hands-on learning.”

He is also a community builder at The Climate Ark, a climate change portal and internet search tool that provides access to reviewed climate change and renewable energy news and information.

Shukla co-founded ReHive, an optimized fundraising platform that helps climate adaptation innovators raise capital. The company aims to “accelerate the world’s transition to a climate-resilient reality for under-resourced communities,” the Foundation said.

He is also a community builder at The Climate Ark, a climate change portal and internet search tool that provides access to reviewed climate change and renewable energy news and information, as per his LinkedIn page. It is dedicated to promoting public policy that addresses global climate change through reductions in carbon dioxide and other emissions, renewable energy, energy conservation and ending deforestation.

Before moving to the U.S., he worked at SME Consultant at Billion Lives Business Initiatives in Bangalore, a senior research associate at the Energy, Environment and Climate Change Team in Pune and as a fellow and program manager at Teach For India, an India-wide movement of leaders dedicated to providing an excellent education for all children. He has a BE from the Manipal Institute of Technology.
