Indian American Ravi Ahuja Named President and COO of Sony Pictures Entertainment
- Currently chairman of Sony Pictures Television and head of corporate development, he will continue to oversee the company’s TV business in his elevated role.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has named Ravi Ahuja as its new president and COO, the company announced today (March 6). Currently chairman of Sony Pictures Television and head of corporate development, the Indian American will “continue to oversee the company’s TV business in his elevated role,” the announcement added.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that Ahuja’s promotion to president and COO, “a post that did not exist previously, “positions him as a likely successor to CEO Tony Vinciquerra, though a source noted that the he is not expected to leave his post anytime soon.”
As chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development, Ahuja led Sony Pictures Television’s U.S. and international productions, nonfiction, kids and game shows divisions, and the studio’s India business, his Sony profile says. Additionally he oversaw Sony Pictures Entertainment’s (SPE) Corporate Development and M&A (mergers and acquisitions) activities along with Vinciquerra.
Prior to joining Sony in March 2021, he was president of Business Operations and CFO of Walt Disney Television. “He played a central role in merging Disney/ABC Television and Fox Networks following Disney’s acquisition of Fox in early 2019,” his profile said.
Prior to his time at Disney, he served as CFO of the Fox Networks Group, where he oversaw finance, strategy and business development for all its business units: Twentieth Century Fox Television, Fox Broadcasting, Fox Cable Networks, Fox Sports, National Geographic and Fox Networks Europe and Africa, Latin America and Asia.
In his 12 years at Fox, he formulated and executed on the company’s growth initiatives, including those in streaming and new technology. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Roku, Inc.
Before joining Fox in 2007, he served as CFO for Virgin Entertainment Group, Inc. Prior to that, he worked at McKinsey & Company and in investment banking.
He has undergraduate and MBA degrees from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and recently joined the Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board.
