South Asian American Tauhid Dewan, a New York City Official, Arraigned on Subway Sexual Abuse Charges

  • The Manhattan DA Analyst who helped build prosecutions of violent offenders now faces criminal charges himself after an incident on a Queens subway line.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, led by DA Alvin Bragg, regularly prosecutes subway sex crimes. Its own press releases over the past several years have announced indictments for forcible touching, serial subway sex abuse, and sexual assault across the New York City transit system. In at least one of those announcements — a June 2025 gun trafficking indictment — the office cited a staff member named Tauhid Dewan as a senior investigative analyst in its Crime Strategies Unit who had assisted with the prosecution.

This week, Dewan found himself on the other side of that institutional divide.

According to news outlets citing police and law enforcement sources, Dewan, 28, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on multiple charges stemming from an alleged incident aboard a No. 7 subway train in Queens. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Wednesday, according to state court records.

The Manhattan DA’s Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that Dewan had been suspended following his arrest.

What Police Say Happened

According to police sources cited by PIX11 News, the incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, as passengers were exiting the No. 7 train at the Junction Boulevard station in Queens — a stop deep in the Corona neighborhood in the borough’s interior. Dewan was accused of touching a 40-year-old woman’s private area as they were getting off the train, PIX11 reported.

The victim and the suspect were strangers, sources told PIX11. They had no prior connection.

According to the New York Police Department, Dewan was arrested within minutes of the incident — possibly shortly after returning from work, based on the timing of the arrest around 5 p.m. The NYPD Transit Bureau made the arrest.

The charges he faces are multiple and serious. Fox News Digital reported that Dewan was charged with forcible touching on a bus or train, third-degree sexual abuse, and second-degree harassment involving physical contact. He was also charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17, a charge that, as Fox News Digital noted, suggests a minor may have been nearby and either witnessed the alleged conduct or was placed at risk by it.

Four Years Inside the DA’s Office

City records, as reviewed and reported by Fox News Digital, show that Dewan had worked at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as a senior investigative analyst since July 10, 2022 — nearly four years at the time of his arrest.

The nature of that role is documented in official government records. A press release published on the Manhattan DA’s website in June 2025, announcing charges in a gun trafficking conspiracy involving an alleged member of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, listed “Senior Investigative Analyst Tauhid Dewan (Crime Strategies Unit)” as one of the staff members assisting with the investigation and prosecution of the case.

The Crime Strategies Unit, where Dewan was assigned, focuses on data-driven prosecution strategies and supports frontline trial bureaus in building cases against violent and organized crime defendants.

It is a role that sits close to the prosecutorial heart of the office — and at considerable remove from the situation Dewan now faces as a defendant

The Office Responds

A spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that Dewan had been suspended following his arrest. The office did not offer additional public comment on the matter, as reported by the outlets covering the story.

The arraignment in Queens Criminal Court, scheduled for Wednesday according to state court records, was the formal next step in the legal process following his arrest and charging.

A Note on What Is Known — and What Is Not

The charges against Tauhid Dewan are allegations. He has not been convicted of any offense. His attorney, if one has been retained and publicly identified, had not been cited in any of the reports available at the time of this writing, and no statement from Dewan or his legal representation has been published by any of the outlets that covered the arrest.
