Indian Americans March in Black Lives Matter Protests in New York City

Several Indian Americans attended Black Lives Matter rallies in New York City to stand in solidarity with the black brothers and sisters and protest against police brutality. Holding placards and shouting slogans like “No Justice, No Peace,” and “I Can’t Breathe,” Indian Americans of all ages took to the streets to make their voices heard.

In the photo above, Suraj Patel, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from New York’s 12th Congressional District, is seen at a peaceful vigil in the Upper East Side of New York City, June 3, Patel is also an activist, organizer, lawyer, and lecturer on ethics at NYU Stern. “The last several days have been gut wrenching for millions of Americans who know we’ve reached a breaking point,” Patel wrote on his social media handles. “Let me state clearly, the killing of our Black boys, men, and women can not be tolerated when there are proven evidence-based policies to eliminate police brutality, end mass incarceration, and usher in an era of community healing.”
