A Joint Family in the Time of Pandemic

The Washington Post reported a fascinating story about a multi-generational joint family in Delhi in which 11 of 17 members tested positive to Covid-19. The oldest of the Garg family is 90 years old and the youngest is just 3 months. “We knew we would all be positive … We were quite sure that someone would be sacrificed,” the Post quoted Mukul Garg, 33, as saying. He was trained as a doctor before joining his father’s plastic-packaging business. “For the Gargs, living together may have been a source of vulnerability but also was a reservoir of strength. Three brothers and their families, together with their parents, have had what is known here as a “joint family” arrangement for decades,” the Post reported.
