Indian American actor Rizwan Manji has joined the cast of the Netflix comedy “Wedding Season,” with Suraj Sharma and Pallavi Sharda in the lead, Deadline reports. The film is written by Shiwani Srivastava and directed by Tom Dey. It follows story on two Indian Americans –
Asha Maurya (Sharda) and Ravi Shah (Sharma). Unable to escape the pressure of her immigrant parents to find a spouse, Asha teams up with bachelor Ravi to get their extended South Asian family off their backs. The duo pretends to date in order to survive a summer of weddings, only to find themselves falling for each other as they struggle to balance who they are with who their parents want them to be.
The shooting of the film will start next month in Toronto. Swati Shetty is producing for her Samosa Stories banner with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard for Imagine Entertainment, alongside Tony Hernandez and John Hodges for Jax Media. Ryan M. Murphy and John Rhodes are executive producers.
Sharma, 28, made his debut in Ang Lee’s “Life Of Pi” in 2012. He is the lead actor in Danish Renzu’s “The Illegal” about an aspiring filmmaker from India in pursuit of the ‘American Dream.’
Sharda was last seen in the live action-animation adventure “Tom & Jerry.” She shot to Bollywood fame as Ranbir Kapoor’s heroine in the 2013 film “Besharam,” and has made a name for herself in the international scene with roles in Australian shows such as “Retrograde” and “Pulse,” and the British series “Beecham House.”
Manji will next be seen in James Gunn’s HBO Max series “The Scriptures” as well as “Atypical” for Netflix. He is well known for his recurring role on the Emmy-winning “Schitt’s Creek” and has also appeared in NBC’s “Perfect Harmony.”
