Former Hindu Monk Jay Shetty to Officiate Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s Wedding in Georgia

  • A close friend of the actor and musician, the life coach and podcaster has interviewed her on his “On Purpose” podcast.

Life coach, author, podcaster and former monk Jay Shetty will officiate the weekend wedding of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. The couple is hosting a three-day extravaganza, “following their impromptu July Vegas nuptials, at Affleck’s family estate Riceboro estate in Georgia this weekend,” according to Page Six.

Shetty, reportedly a close friend of Lopez, previously officiated Lily Collins and director Charlie McDowell’s September 2021 wedding in Colorado. In February, Lopez had invited Shetty to officiate four weddings that she organized before the release of her film “Marry Me.”At the time, Shetty took to Instagram to pen his experience. “When Jennifer Lopez asks you to officiate 4 weddings and speak on the power of love during her ‘Marry Me’ Special Performance you say yes,” he wrote.

In March last year, Lopez was a guest on Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast. In the first episode of Coach Conversations, a monthly YouTube and Podcast series, the two discussed themes such as finding your purpose, the difference between a “calling” and a ‘“career,” and why striving for your best makes all the difference.

Shetty, 34, launched “On Purpose” in 2019, and interviews celebrities and other successful people on what they believe is their purpose in life. “I wanted to create a conversation that went beyond the athlete, beyond the celebrity, beyond the personality, the profile, the persona, and to me, that essence that everyone has, that truth that everyone has is their purpose,” he said on “The Build Series” in May 2019. “It’s what we’re ready to die for and what we live for.”

The U.K.-born-and-raised Shetty met a monk while in business school, who encouraged him to spend four summers living a Vedic monk lifestyle at an ashram in Mumbai. Before launching his podcast, he produced videos about relationships, wellness, mental health and purpose for the Huffington Post in New York.

He is married to Radhi Devlukia-Shetty, a vegan chef and Ayurveda expert. She was the first guest on the podcast. She appeared on the show again for its first anniversary. On the show, she revealed that she was in awe of Jay. “I was in awe of him. He also looked really cool – he had a bald head. He didn’t look like the type of person that would be thinking about these things because he had tattoos and a bald head, but then he was in robes. And I said, ‘This is really, really cool, but weird at the same time.”

In an anniversary post written in April 2020, Shetty praised his spouse for her support throughout his career. “When I met you 7 years ago, I had no plan, money or ideas about what I was going to do, just lots of passion,” he wrote in a Facebook post on their wedding day. “You believed in me, stuck by me and have helped me become a better man through your love, support and kindness. We’ve done SO much in the last 4 years, so much change and so much uncertainty but you’ve never made me feel that you don’t trust me or believe in me!”

According to a January 2021 report in Homes and Gardens, Affleck’s family estate features “a central mansion designed in a plantation style over 4,000 acres.” The weekend festivities with family and friends will start with a rehearsal dinner on Aug. 19, Page Six reported, followed by a ceremony on Aug. 20 and a barbecue and picnic the following day. Lopez will reportedly be wearing a custom couture Ralph Lauren dress made in Italy. Among guests are several A-List friends including Matt Damon, Jimmy Kimmel, Casey Affleck and Drea de Matteo.
