‘Dance the Night’ in Jaipur: Global Pop Star Dua Lipa Welcomes the New Year in India

  • The British Albanian singer said she’s lucky to have had time to “explore, regroup, recharge and restart” ahead of the New Year.

British Albanian singer Dua Lipa had a rejuvenating time in India with her family. In a series of posts and photos on social media, Lipa documented her visit and expressed gratitude as she welcomed the new year. Accompanied by her family — parents Anesa Lipa and Dukagjin Lipa, sister Rina Lipa, and brother Gjin Lipa — “The Don’t Start Now” singer visited Delhi and then was in Jaipur, Rajasthan to ring in the new year. 

“I feel so beyond lucky to end my year here in India,” Lipa wrote on Instagram and X. “Thank you to all the wonderful people here who have shown us so much love, kindness, hospitality and generosity.” Describing her India experience as being “deeply meaningful,” she said she feels “lucky to be in and within the magic with my family where we have had the time to explore, regroup, recharge, and restart. Ready for the year ahead. What a joy.”

In Jaipur, the Lipas partied with Rajkumari Gauravi Kumari, the daughter of Maharajkumari Shri Diya Kumari Sahiba of Jaipur, Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, The Times of India reported. Lipa and her family visited Humayun’s Tomb and Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi and also spent some time in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

On social media, Lipa shared images showing her and her family sitting down together at a temple, as well as images and clips of people dancing. There was a photo of Lipa smiling next to an elephant, as well as a clip of herself riding horseback.

This is Lipa’s third visit to India. She first visited the country in 2018 with her then-boyfriend Issac Crew. The couple visited Rathambore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kerala, and Goa “switching off for a little bit and getting totally immersed in the magical culture, food and traditions,” according to her Instagram post at the time.

“A trip we’ve wanted to do for a very long time and I’m so happy we did.” She revisited the country in November 2019 to perform at the OnePlus Music Festival in Mumbai. This year, she is nominated for two Grammys — Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media for the “Barbie” soundtrack “Dance the Night.”
