Nepali American Man Beaten to Death While Trying to Resolve a Fight Broken at Music Concert in Nashville
- Umesh Dahal, a 41-year-old father of two, died in hospital from severe head injuries, a little over a day after he was beaten by at least two people on July 29 outside a Top Golf.
Umesh Dahal, a 41-year-old father of two, was beaten to death outside a Top Golf in Nashville, Tennessee when he tried to break up a fight. He died in hospital on July 2 morning from severe head injuries since the beating by at least two people on July 29 night. He is survived by his wife, Damanta Kafley Dahal, and two young girls.
Dahal was attending a music event on the lower level of Top Golf, an indoor, electronically operating driving range, when a violent dispute erupted inside, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police. The fight eventually led people outside to the parking lot, where Dahal was reportedly âtrying to defuse the argument when he was punched, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete,â the Metropolitan Nashville Police said. He was then kicked in the head while on the ground.
When police assumed the investigation on July 1, they arrested Bishal Rai, 26, who is identified as the man alleged to have kicked Dahal in the head. He was apprehended at his residence in Antioch that evening and was charged with aggravated assault. âThat charge will be upgraded to criminal homicide as the result of Dahalâs death,” the police said. A judicial commissioner ordered that Rai be held without bond pending a hearing.
The investigation is continuing into “the potential involvement of other persons in the fatal assault on Dahal,” police said.Â
The concert, hosted by the Nashville Nepalese Association was held at The Cowan, a 635-person capacity live-performance venue on the lower level of the Top Golf, and featured Nepali Rock Band âMantra,â according to the organizationâs Facebook page.
