Indian Civil Engineer in Maryland Who was Found Shot in the Head in His SUV Dies

An Indian techie from Maryland, who was shot in the head inside his vehicle by an unidentified killer in Baltimore this past weekend, has died. The man, identified as Sai Charan Nakka, 26, was a civil engineer from Nalgonda in Telangana. He was returning home after dropping off his friend early in the morning at the airport.

Local media reports say the Maryland Transportation Authority Police (MDTA) found Nakka injured inside a 2022 silver Hyundai Tucson. He had a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he died soon after.

According to The Baltimore Sun, the incident occurred when an assailant opened fire which killed Nakka and 40-year-old Trevor White. Baltimore police have launched a homicide investigation following Nakka’s death, it added. Additional details about the incident are not clear.

The son of a retired school teacher, Nakka came to the U.S in 2020 for his graduate studies, according to his LinkedIn profile. Upon graduation, he started working at a civil engineering firm in Columbia, Maryland, in January this year. His father N. Narasimha told Indian media that they didn’t want to send his son to the U.S. “But he insisted and then we allowed him to realize his wish as he was very particular to go to the U.S. We never imagined that he would be coming back as a dead body.”

He said his son had recently bought a new car. He said they last spoke almost a week before his death and asked them to send bank account details. The family has appealed to the Government of India and the Telangana government to help bring the body home.
