Indian American Mother and Daughter Killed in a Hit-and-Run in California’s Bay Area

- Narinder Kaur, 75, and Kuljit Kaur, 53, were struck by a driver in a red pickup, who then fled the scene.

A woman and her adult daughter were killed last week in a hit-and-run in San Jose, California, while on an evening walk. Narinder Kaur, 75, and Kuljit Kaur, 53, “were walking in the crosswalk at Ocala Avenue and Oakland Court about 6:30 p.m. on April 7, when they were struck by a driver in a red pickup,” who then fled the scene,” KTVU reported. The women were rushed to a hospital, where they died from their injuries.
The incident was reportedly captured on a neighbor’s video. It showed a man driving a red full-sized pickup truck westbound when he hit the two women, who were in a crosswalk.
Images of the truck and driver released by police indicate that the vehicle resembled a GMC pickup truck with a full cab and a black bed cover.
Citing police, the KTVU report said “the driver left the area after the collision and was last seen headed north on Capitol Expressway.”

On a GoFundMe page, Harneet and Manpreet, two teenage daughters of Kuljit Kaur, called the mother-daughter duo pillars of the family. “Our grandmother spent her entire life ensuring her children and grandchildren were well taken care of.”
They wrote that their mother and grandmother had gone out for an evening stroll and never came home. “Instead, they were victims of reckless driving, which cost them their lives.”
The daughters and their mother had migrated to California from India about a week ago “to start our new journey and work toward our American dream.” They lamented the fact that their grandmother and mother had waited so long to be together in the United States “My mom and grandmother were only able to spend one week together here in the USA. But unfortunately, our lives were shattered on this sad day.”
