Indian American Mother and 4-year-old Daughter Killed in Car Crash; Father and Son in Critical Condition

An Indian American mother and her four-year-old daughter were killed in a car crash in Oregon’s Clackamas County this past weekend. The accident occurred on March 30 when Geethanjali Kakkera, 32, of Hillsboro, failed to stop at a stop sign. Her car collided with the side of another car headed westbound, Oregonlive reported, citing Oregon State Police. 

The girl died on the spot, while Kakkera was hospitalized in critical condition, but succumbed to her injuries, the Oregonlive report said. Her husband Nareshbabu Kamathman, 36, and their 8-year-old son were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The family of four was reportedly traveling to a temple to celebrate Kakkera’s birthday. Both she and her husband belong to Konakanchi village in Andhra Pradesh. Both were software engineers.

The driver of the Jeep, 18-year-old Benjamin Hernandez-Lopez of Canby, and passenger Janie Corona-Huarta, 19, of Canby, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
