  • Written and executive produced by the Indian American, it revolves around five work-obsessed twenty-somethings who strive for professional success and happiness in the New York City neighborhood.

Mindy Kaling is reuniting with Hulu with “Murray Hill,” a single-camera comedy, more than six years after her first series as a creator ran. The project comes from Warner Bros. TV, where Kaling is under an overall deal, and was taken out at the beginning of the year,” Deadline reported. “In a tough marketplace, the project garnered interest from multiple buyers, landing Hulu in a competitive situation with a script-to-series commitment,” the report added.

Written by Kaling, the comedy revolves around “five work-obsessed twenty-somethings who strive for professional success and happiness in the New York City neighborhood of Murray Hill. “I thought it might be fun to write a show about young people in the most glamorous neighborhood in the world,” Kaling wrote in a post on Facebook. “So excited to be back with my gang at Hulu,” she added.

Kaling will also executive produce via her Kaling International and its overall deal at WBTV alongside 3 Arts Entertainment’s Howard Klein. Kaling International’s Jessica Kumai Scott co-executive produces.

Hulu picked up “The Mindy Project” in 2015 when Kaling’s first series as a creator was canceled by Fox after three seasons. Before the acquisition, Hulu was already showing repeats of the workplace/romantic comedy. The series went on for three more seasons as a Hulu original, “including a supersized 26-episode Season 4,” the Deadline report said.

Following “The Mindy Project,” Kaling went on to co-create/co-develop hit series “Never Have I Ever” for Netflix and” The Sex Lives of College Girls” and “Velma” for Max. “Murray Hill” is her first series as a solo creator since “The Mindy Project.”

She is also working on a yet-untitled series for Netflix, set in the world of pro basketball, with Kate Hudson as the lead. The story revolves around Isla Gordon (Hudson), who takes over as president of the Los Angeles Waves. She is “forced” to lead the professional basketball franchises, and her family business when a scandal forces her brother to resign,” according to a summary on the Netflix website. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”
