Indian American Charged with 18 Counts of First-degree Criminal Sexual Conduct

A Michigan man could face life in prison if convicted of 18 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct he was charged with. Shailesh Patel, 53, of Canton Township, was formally charged on Dec. 17 at 35th District Court.
As per a report on WDIV Local 4 news channel, the police have not released details about the alleged crimes, but said that investigation began after one victim filed a report of the abuse. That abuse dated back “several years,” news reports said, quoting authorities.
The police worked in conjunction with an FBI task force focused on trafficking and exploitation crimes. Hometown Life reported the online court records indicate the alleged crimes happened in 2005. “Most of the CSC [criminal sexual conduct] counts involve allegations regarding a child younger than 13 years of age and, for three fourth-degree CSC counts, force and coercion,
the report said.
Bond was denied for Patel. He is being held at the Wayne County Jail and is scheduled to return to court later this month.
