Blood Feud: Long Island Construction Owner Navdeep Singh Charged in Murder-for-Hire Plot

- Singh is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

A Long Island construction company owner was arrested over the weekend for allegedly plotting to hire a hitman to kidnap, torture and kill a former business associate, according to Nassau County prosecutors.
Navdeep Singh, 48, of Dix Hills, faces conspiracy and criminal solicitation charges after allegedly offering $100,000 and 10 acres of land in India to have his business rival murdered, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced Monday.
The alleged plot stemmed from a years-long civil lawsuit between Singh’s company, Gravity Construction Corp., and a former business associate. Singh’s company had been removed from a construction job managed by the intended victim, prosecutors said.
According to prosecutors, Singh contacted what he believed was a hitman between May 29 and June 3 to discuss the elaborate murder scheme. The plan involved kidnapping the victim, taking him out of state, torturing and extorting him for millions of dollars before eventually killing him.
“He wanted the victim dead, but not just dead. He wanted him dismembered,” DA Donnelly said during a Monday press briefing, as reported by CBS News. “We saved a man’s life this weekend.”
Prosecutors allege Singh went to disturbing lengths to facilitate the murder, including:
- Taking photographs of the victim’s home and vehicle to send to the would-be hitman
- Purchasing multiple burner phones
- Paying a $7,000 down payment during meetings to discuss the plot
- Requesting that the victim be decapitated
- Demanding photos of the victim’s head and torso as proof of completion
Hitman Reports Plot to Police
The alleged hitman accepted the job but “immediately” had second thoughts and reported the plot to police, according to the New York Post’s reporting of prosecutor statements. This cooperation led to Singh’s arrest on Saturday when he was pulled over in a Whole Foods parking lot across from Americana Manhasset, shortly after he had driven past the victim’s home again.
“This was a very dangerous situation,” Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said at Monday’s press briefing. “Thanks to the hard work of our District Attorney Squad working in partnership with DA Anne Donnelly and her tenacious prosecutors we prevented what would have been a tragedy: settling a business dispute with murder.”
Singh was arraigned Sunday before Judge Lisa Locurto on charges of Conspiracy in the Second Degree (a B felony) and Criminal Solicitation in the Second Degree (a D felony). His bail was set at $1 million cash, $2 million bond, and $5 million partially secured bond. He was also ordered to surrender his passport.
Singh is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
Community Reaction
The case has shocked residents in the affluent Long Island community. “That’s like watching ‘The Sopranos.’ It’s something you don’t figure is going to happen every day, in real life,” local shopper Jeanette Reed told CBS News.
DA Donnelly emphasized the severity of the alleged crimes: “It is unfathomable the lengths to which this defendant was allegedly willing to go, but because of the incredible work of the Nassau County Police Department’s District Attorney Squad and my prosecutors his plot was thwarted, and we can say we saved a life this past weekend.”
The intended victim, described as a multimillionaire living on Nassau County’s North Shore, was reportedly unaware that his life was allegedly in danger.
