78-year-old New Jersey Man Charged in Fatal Second-Degree Hit-and-Run Incident

A 78-year-old New Jersey man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run last month. According to a press release from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Thiruvenk Srinivasan, 78, of Edison was charged on Nov. 12 with leaving the scene after hitting James B. Leinbach, 82, of Clark.
Prosecutors say Srinivasan didn’t stop after hitting James B. Leinbach at about 6 a.m. on Oct. 20 near the intersection of Raritan Road and Clarkton Drive. News reports say Leinbach was walking to an eatery to get his routine breakfast on Oct. 20.
Srinivasan is currently waiting for a first appearance to take place in Superior Court. He is charged with a single count of second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Srinivasan fled the scene after hitting Leinbach, who suffered serious injuries and was later pronounced dead. As per a Facebook post from the Clark Township Police Department, Srinivasan was driving a red or maroon 1994-2004 Chevy S-10 or GMC Sonoma. The vehicle was damaged at the passenger’s side front fender, antenna and side view mirror.
Srinivasan was found to be connected to the crash following an investigation led by the Clark Police Department Traffic and Detective bureaus and Lt. Christian Lott, assisted by members of the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Prosecutor’s Office’s Cyber Crimes Task Force.
