Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Host Pre-Oscar Event to Celebrate South Asian Excellence

  • Co-hosted by Mindy Kaling and Kumail Nanjiani, the March 23 event will be attended by several Academy Award-nominated actors who trace their roots to South Asia.

As a follow-up to the Academy Awards, Priyanka Chopra Jonas will be hosting a pre-Oscar event along with several of her South Asian colleagues including Mindy Kaling and Kumail Nanjiani on March 23 to celebrate South Asian Excellence, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Other hosts include Anjula Acharia, Bela Bajaria and Maneesh K. Goyal and Shruti Ganguly.

The event is sponsored by UTA, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, Johnnie Walker, South Asian Arts Resiliency Fund of the India Center, and the Juggernaut. Among The expected to attend the event are Riz Ahmed and Suroosh Alvi (“Flee”); Pawo Choyning Dorji (“Lunana: A Yak within the Classroom”); Joseph Patel (“Summer time of Soul”); Aneil Karia (“The Lengthy Goodbye”); Elizabeth Mirzaei and Gulistan Mirzaei (“Three Songs for Benazir”); and Rintu Thomas, Sushmit Ghosh and Anurima Bhargava (“Writing with Fire”).

Chopra Jonas has been roped in for Indo-Canadian the film adaption for Shilpi Somaya Gowda’s cross-cultural novel “Secret Daughter,” along with Sienna Miller. The adaptation for Amazon by filmmaker and writer Shruti Ganguly, will be directed by Singaporean director Anthony Chen. Chopra Jonas is also a producer along with Mary Rohlich of Purple Pebble Pictures, and Sunset Lane Media’s David Beaubaire and Vanessa Lanci, Miller and Tori Cook.

Chopra Jonas’ last project as a producer, “The White Tiger,” was an adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s bestselling novel of the same name. The critically acclaimed film, also starring Chopra Jonas, which was released by Netflix, received several nominations, including for best actor at the Baftas last year for Adarsh Gourav.

On the acting front, she was last seen in “The Matrix: Resurrections.” She is set to star in “Citadel,” a spy thriller series directed by the Russo brothers, along with Richard Madden.
