- Harshdeep Singh, who was on a student visa here, was newly married and was visiting Millerton Lake in Fresno with his wife.
A 21-year-old Indian man has died after drowning in a lake in California last week. Harshdeep Singh who had been to Millerton Lake in Fresno, along with his wife, was swept away by the waters, according to a fundraiser page created for him. He was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, the Fresno Bee reported. Emergency personnel performed CPR and Singh regained a pulse, but he died two days later on July 16, the Bee added.
Although news reports say Singh “jumped into the water without knowing how to swim and without a life jacket,” his father-in-law Rocky Raquel Barredo says on the Go Fund Me page that his son-in-law was “a very good swimmer.”
The young man, who was on a student visa, was married to Barredo’s daughter “a little less than two months ago.” He described Singh as “a loving son-in-law and an amazing husband.” Noting that his daughter works long hours and doesn’t get many days off, the couple decided to visit the lake on the first day off.
Barredo says the money raised will be used to pay medical bills as they don’t have medical insurance. “I was told $30,000 for the air life transportation being flagged in the helicopter to the hospital,” he wrote on the GoFundMe page.
