In Good Taste: IFC Films Acquires North American Rights to Ravi Kapoor’s ‘Four Samosas’

  • The heist comedy, which premiered at the year’s Tribeca Film Festival, will be released in theaters and on-demand, Dec. 2.

IFC Films has acquired North American rights to “Four Samosas,” written and directed by Ravi Kapoor, and will release it in theaters and on-demand, Dec. 2. The film had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.

Leading the ensemble cast of “Four Samosas” is Venk Potula, along with Sonal Shah, Sharmita Bhattacharya, Nirvan Patnaik, Karan Soni, Meera Simhan, Summer Bishil, Sujata Day, Smarat Chakraborti, and Sreejit Nair. It is produced by Kapoor; alongside Venk Potula for Khrisp Entertainment, Rajiv Maikhuri and Craig Stovel for Creative Rebel Productions. It is executive produced by Utkarsh Ambudkar, Karan Soni, Sanjay M. Sharma and Milan Chakraborty of Marginal MediaWorks, and Kathrin Hamilton and Matthew Young.

The plot of the film revolves around the “happy-go-lucky, underachieving, wanna-be rapper Vinny (Potula), who is dismayed to learn that his favorite ex-girlfriend Rina (Bishil) is planning to marry his smarmy arch-nemesis. Determined to disrupt the wedding as well as fund the dreams of his family and friends, he and his band of neighborhood pals concoct a plan to steal Rina’s dowry jewels from her father’s supermarket safe. Tribeca describes it as a “lighthearted and engaging film, which is “a feel-good love letter to Indian American culture and norms in this tale of putting it all on the line in the name of love.”

In an IFC Films press release, president Arianna Bocco said: “Kapoor has made a hilarious film that is part comedy and part heist movie with a spirit and style reminiscent of Wes Anderson. It features an incredible ensemble cast who are totally game for Kapoor’s wild ride. We’re so thrilled to have Ravi and his team as part of the IFC Family, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience this endearing and original film.”
