Indian American Boyfriend Pops the Question as Meteorologist Girlfriend is Taping Segment for CBS Bay Area Affiliate
- Mary Lee was completely caught off guard as her longtime boyfriend Ajit Ninan, with his daughters at hand, proposed to her on Valentineâs Day.
Mary Lee, a meteorologist with CBS Bay Area affiliate KPIX, dreamt of being proposed for marriage in the background of Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights. On Valentineâs Day, her dream came true, thanks to her Indian American boyfriend, Ajit Ninan.
A video shared by KPIX captures the moment Ninan popped the question. It happened on Feb. 14, Valentineâs Day, when Lee was taping a segment on the Northern Lights. She was completely caught off guard when Ninanâs daughters, Mirium and Madi, appeared on set, each with a rose in hand. âOh my goodness!â Lee said, wrapping the girls up in hugs. Then entered Ninan, who also hugged Lee. âOh, Iâm gonna cry,â Lee said as she saw her longtime boyfriend.
It was then that Ninan got down on one knee. Lee began to cry even before he popped the question. âMary, youâre my Northern Lights,â Ninan said. The lights on the screen, with the splendid green and blue aura, created a perfect backdrop for a magical proposal Lee had wished for. âYou light up my life in the most spectacular, beautiful ways,â Ninan told Lee. âThe girls adore you and I love you, and I want you to be part of our family.â Lee continued to cry tears of joy as Ninan slipped the ring onto her finger.
In a segment filmed after the proposal with KPIX 5 Noon news anchors Len Kiese and Amanda Starrantino, Lee teared up seeing the clip of the proposal. âIt was just so unexpected,â she said. “Honestly, I did not know if it would ever happen,â she said laughing. And although the staff at KPIX had been âdropping hints about the proposal beforehand,â Lee said she âdidnât even see it coming from a mile away,â she added. âIt was just incredible,â she added. âI am still on a high and still in shock, for sure. Now we have a wedding to plan!â
Ninan is the vice president of ATG Engineering at Dolby Laboratories. His âinnovation and inventions are manifest in over 300 patents globally, span multiple patent families and are in broad subjects ranging from image, Color, Video, Audio and Networking,â according to his LinkedIn profile. Before joining Dolby, Ninan was a principal engineer at Motorola. He has a BS and MS in Computer Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
