Indian American Comedian Kabir ‘Kabeezy’ Singh Dead at 39 

  • While the toxicology report is awaited for details on the cause of death, a Facebook post by his friend says he “passed peacefully in his sleep.”

Indian American comedian Kabir ‘Kabeezy’ Singh has died in San Francisco. He was 39. Few details are currently available about his death, but TMZ, which first broke the news said Singh had several health issues. Law enforcement sources told the publication that  they are currently waiting for the results of a toxicology report before making a determination of his cause of death. 

Meanwhile, a Facebook post by Singh’s Jeremy Curry said the comedian “passed away peacefully in his sleep.” Curry also mentioned in his post that Singh’s funeral services will be held on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 14, in Hayward, California, He continued by asking for thoughts and prayers for Singh’s loved ones and his fiancée.

Singh, a Fremont native rose to prominence with his appearances on Season 16 of America’s Got Talent. Singh managed to make it all the way to the semifinals round in 2021 before he was eliminated from the show. According to the New York Daily News, “panelists Sofía Vergara called Singh’s set ‘a great surprise,’ while Simon Cowell said it was ‘pretty impressive and a great audition.’’

Singh, who often told jokes about his Indian heritage, had been touring the country with visits to comedy clubs and theaters over the past year. He last posted on Instagram on Nov. 2, about a show he was doing in Manteca.

Singh had one acting credit from a 2016 episode of “Family Guy,” titled Road To India, according to IMDb.However, he had appeared on multiple stand-up shows. He made appearances on Comedy Central in a 2014 episode of “Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution,” and he was featured on the BBC as well. He appeared on a 2017 episode of the comedy game show “Punchline,” which aired on Fox. His biggest solo set was a 2020 half-hour special filmed for Dry Bar Comedy titled “Retiring Material.”

There’s an outpouring of grief from friends and colleagues on Singh’s social media pages. They talk about Singh’s talent as a standup comedian, and recall how he provided opportunities to many upcoming comedians and advised them on the tricks of the trade. 

 Fellow Bay Area comic Chris Mitri paid tribute to Singh on his Instagram Story, remembering him as “a guiding light to all Bay Area comics, showing us that if you work hard enough your talent will shine through” and “a force to be reckoned with.
