Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) Service for Indian Nationals Outsourced to VFS Global

  • PCC is issued to Indian passport holders in case they have applied for residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration. PCC for non-Indian nationals will continue to be processed by the Embassy of India directly.

The Embassy of India in Washington D.C. and the various consulates have outsourced the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) service for Indian nationals to outsourcing partner VFS Global, starting May 17. PCC is issued to Indian passport holders in case they have applied for residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration.

Applicants may apply according to their consular jurisdiction. Only those living in Bermuda, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia seeking PCC may apply in Washington, D.C.

Applicants should apply at https://portal4.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html 

They may create a login ID choosing Washington, D.C. as the mission and then fill out the online PCC application. While filling up the application, applicants may write their Indian Address and the name of the concerned Police Station, enabling the police authorities to verify their antecedents. After filling the online application, applicants may take a printout and complete the set by enclosing the supporting documents including notarized copy of passport, valid U.S. visa status, proof of address: U.S. driving license, utility bill, lease agreement, state identity card or mortgage deed, and one color passport-size photograph, to be pasted and to sign below in the respective spaces. The PCC, as per the current government of India guidelines, would be issued only after clearance from the relevant police authority in India.

Following are the fees for the PCC service: 

Fee for applicant holding passport issued by Embassy of India Washington, D.C.: $25 as fee and $2 as contribution towards Indian Community Welfare Fund + Outsourcing charges of $15.90, besides shipping charges and online payment charges (as applicable).
