Indian and South Asian Americans joined a shocked nation to express their anger, outrage and anguish at the killing of 20-year-old Black man Daunte Wright, who was fatally shot by police officer Kim Potter during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. From politicians and celebrities to pundits, they took to the social media, some even demanding dismantling the racist police system.
Vice President Kamala Devi Harris
Prayers are not enough. Daunte Wright should still be with us. While an investigation is underway, our nation needs justice and healing, and Daunte’s family needs to know why their child is dead—they deserve answers.

Why was this cop wanting to pull a taser on a 20-year old kid for expired tags in the first place? Absurd.
Impossible that a veteran cop couldn’t tell difference b/w taser and gun.
We need real consequences for these killings. https://t.co/k99LwMvdEB

My heavy heart is with Daunte’s family, and all those lives devastated by the yet another Black person shot by the police.
We need accountability now.

In 2017 an unarmed white woman Justine Damond was shot by police & the officer was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison.

This is why police use excessive force with impunity. There are no consequences. https://t.co/U0F3STOCmY

"Daunte Wright, who had a 2-year-old son, dropped out of high school about two years ago because of a learning disability, his father said.

Since then, he worked in retail and fast-food restaurants to support his son. He planned to go back to school to get his GED."
Daunte Wright was 20 years old, out driving with his girlfriend in his new car.

MN cops pulled him over because he had an air freshener on his rearview mirror- moments later he was shot and killed.
Meanwhile white mass shooters are consistently arrested unscathed.

"When we apply the threshold test to our traffic stop data, we find that police require less suspicion to search black and Hispanic drivers than white drivers. This double standard is evidence of discrimination."

"Starting in 2015, the Open Policing Project began requesting such data from state after state. To date, the project has collected and standardized over 200 million records of traffic stop and search data from across the country."
