Indian American Pooja Vyas Named VP, CMO of Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri

  • Previously medical director of hospital medicine, in her new role, she will oversee the daily operations of medicine workflow and delivery at the hospital.

The Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri has named Pooja P. Vyas as its new vice president and chief medical officer, effective today, Feb. 27. In her new role, Vyas will oversee the daily operations of medicine workflow and delivery at the hospital, according to a press release. For the past year, Vyas has served as medical director of hospital medicine as an internal medicine hospitalist at Christian Hospital. 

Before this, she served as an internal medicine hospitalist at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, “where she was instrumental in implementing a patient satisfaction pilot program at Christian Hospital to engage physicians to sit during patient evaluations to help improve HCAHP scoring for physician communications with patients,” according to the press release. She also created an algorithm to help reduce the rate of readmissions and unnecessary admissions to the emergency department, as well as to improve inpatient versus observation status accuracy.

Before joining BJC in 2019, Vyas was an internal medicine hospitalist at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York for two years. At the same time served as an assistant professor of medicine at nearby Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, where she also completed a one-year physician administrative fellowship and two-year internal medicine residency. She did her internal medicine internship at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.

Vyas is a graduate of Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey, and received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is currently working toward a master’s in business administration from Webster University through the BJC cohort. She began her medical career as an emergency medical technician for three years before entering medical school.

She currently serves on the Christian Hospital by-laws committee, medical executive committee, medical quality review committee and the utilization review committee. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians.
