Indian American in New Jersey Killed While Crossing Street in Hit-and-Run Case
- Dharmesh Patel, 35, who was struck twice, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run crash that led to the death of a 35-year-old Indian American man in New Jersey. Local news reports say Dharmesh Patel of Clifton was walking across Route 46 just past midnight on April 25 when an unidentified vehicle struck him, and fled the scene.
Unfortunately, Patel was struck again by a second vehicle, described in news reports as âa 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 52-year-old male from New Brunswick.â This man, however, stopped and called 911.
Patel was reportedly transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, but was pronounced dead later.
The driver who first struck Patel remains at large, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi told local media.
