U.S. Senate Hopeful Congressman Adam Schiff Adds Two South Asian Staffers to His Team

  • In other appointments, Ravi Doshi has been named senior counsel to the general counsel at the Department of Commerce.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has added two new South Asian staffers to his team, Politico has reported. Maryam Ahmed, who was previously a national press secretary at Senate Majority PAC, will be press secretary “with a focus on California media,” the publication said, while Rohith Murali will be press and digital assistant. The Congressman from Burbank, who has gained national attention as a foil of former President Donald Trump, is running for a U.S. Senate currently held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Before joining the Senate Majority PAC, Ahmed was communications director for former U.S. Education Secretary John King who last year ran for the Democratic nomination for Maryland governor, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also worked for Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign as a press assistant. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Government from The University of Texas, Austin.

Murali has worked as a press intern under Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) and for the U.S House Democratic Caucus under Congressmen Hakeem Jefferies (D-N.Y), per his LinkedIn profile. He graduated from Elon University with a B.A. in Strategic Communications and a minor in Business. He has worked in Digital Strategy for public affairs and political consulting firms like SKDK and CRAFT Media Digital.

Meanwhile, the Commerce Department has named Ravi Doshi as senior counsel to the general counsel. The Indian American was previously a counsel for Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.). He also serves as Judge Advocate in the United States Army Reserve. He has a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor’s in Political Science, Economics and Public Affairs from UCLA.
