Vice President Kamala Harris has a commanding lead over former president Donald Trump amongst South Asian voters in battleground states, a recent poll commissioned by the Indian American Impact Fund has revealed. “The electorate, which could be the deciding factor in swing states, is highly motivated to support Harris, who they see as aligned with their top priorities in this election,” the political organization noted. Indian American Impact Fund works to ensure that South Asians are represented and empowered in the pursuit of equity and justice in America. The survey was conducted by GBAO, a public opinion research and political strategy firm.

Harris leads Trump by 48% in battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, where 600 South Asian voters were surveyed, the group said, The survey also found that “Harris voters hold a motivation advantage over Trump supporters — eighty percent of Harris voters say they are extremely motivated (10) to vote in this election compared to 66% of Trump voters saying the same.”

Survey participants viewed Harris more favorably than Trump (71%). On the other hand, Trump is “deeply unpopular,” the survey said, “with only 22% viewing him favorably, while 74% hold an unfavorable view.”

Listing inflation, economy and abortion as the top issues in this election, the group noted that the South Asian electorate is “firmly pro-choice.” Over 75% of the participants believed that “abortion should be legal all or most of the time,” the survey said.  They also trust Harris over Trump on key issues, “even traditional Republican domains,” the survey said.
