In recent times, there has been a growing interest in Hinduism among individuals from different backgrounds and cultures. The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS, USA), a socio-cultural 501(3)(c) organization committed to promoting the values of Hindu culture, has been at the forefront of this movement. One of their recent initiatives is the Traveling Hindu Civilization Poster Exhibition called — Darshana.

This exhibition was displayed at Ohio State Capitol Rotunda for a few days, from Feb 21 through Feb 23. During the Senate Session on Feb 23, State Senator Niraj Antani recognized the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh and the Darshana Exhibition through a resolution on the floor.

The exhibition was a unique opportunity for visitors to gain insights into Hinduism, a religion that is often misunderstood and misrepresented in the media. The 24 posters presented an overview of Hinduism’s rich history, which dates back more than 5,000 years, and its many contributions to the world, including the development of yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine.

The posters were designed in a way that was easy to understand and visually appealing, making them accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. Some of the topics covered in the exhibition include yoga philosophy, the significance of various Hindu festivals and rituals, the principles of karma and dharma, and the role of women in Hindu society. The exhibition also explores the contributions of Hinduism to various fields, such as science, mathematics, and literature.

The exhibition was well-received by visitors, many of whom were not familiar with Hinduism. Some visitors expressed surprise at the depth and breadth of Hinduism’s history and teachings, while others were impressed by the religion’s focus on service and compassion.

State Senator Stephanie Kunze representing the 16th district, enjoyed learning more about healthy eastern ways to take care of the body through healthy eating, exercise, and meditation. People who were visiting the State House on business also took an opportunity to visit the exhibition and know more. Tod Bowen, Managing Director of External Affairs and Government Relations at Ohio Restaurant Association commented that he enjoyed visiting with a couple of students and learning a little more about Hindu culture, contributions, and practices.

The Traveling Hindu Poster Exhibition is just one of the many initiatives taken by the HSS to promote the values of Hindu culture and provide educational resources to the wider community. The exhibition has traveled to around 165 cities across the United States since the spring of 2022.
