Three to the Power of Joy: Mindy Kaling Announces Birth of Third Child on Social Media
- The mother of six-year-old Katherine "Kit, and Spencer 3, gave birth to her daughter Anne in February.
It’s baby number three for Mindy Kaling. The Indian American actress, comedian, screenwriter, and producer quietly welcomed her third child earlier this year, she revealed on social media yesterday (June 24), her 45th birthday.
“In late February I gave birth to my daughter, Anne,” she wrote in an Instagram. “She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined,” she continued, alongside a photo of her newborn with her two children — daughter, Katherine “Kit, and 3-year-old son, Spencer. She also shared a photo that featured her baby bump and an image of her in a hospital bed alongside her two older kids.
“When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life. I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline. Thanks for all the birthday wishes,” she continued.
Since announcing her first pregnancy in 2017, she has never revealed the identity of the father of her children.
She told People magazine in 2021, that she has help rating her kids. “It absolutely takes a village.”
This May, in an interview with Jennifer Hudson on her talk show, Kaling chatted about whether her kids would ever follow in her footsteps in the industry. “So far I could see my daughter doing it a little bit,” she said. “She did a little bit of musical theater and liked it, but again, wanted to be the star of the production and wasn’t and thus kind of lost interest.” When it comes to her toddler son Spencer, “Not so much,” Kaling said. “He’s a little bit more shy.”
On the work front, Kaling is reuniting with Hulu with “Murray Hill,” a single-camera comedy. Executive produced and written by her, the comedy revolves around “five work-obsessed twenty-somethings who strive for professional success and happiness in the New York City neighborhood of Murray Hill.
Hulu picked up “The Mindy Project” in 2015 when her first series as a creator was canceled by Fox after three seasons. Following “that, she went on to co-create/co-develop hit series “Never Have I Ever” for Netflix and” The Sex Lives of College Girls” and “Velma” for Max. “Murray Hill” is her first series as a solo creator since “The Mindy Project.” She is also working on a yet-untitled series for Netflix, set in the world of pro basketball, with Kate Hudson as the lead.
