Pennsylvania Charity Drishti Foundation to Host Annual 5K Run/Walk Supporting Visually Impaired Children
A Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organization will hold its annual fundraising run and walk event next month to benefit blind and visually impaired children in the region.
The Drishti Foundation announced it will host a 5K and 1K run/walk on Sunday, September 7, in Wayne, Pennsylvania. This year’s event will be held in partnership with the Royer-Greaves School for Blind in Paoli, Pennsylvania, according to the organization.
The collaboration with Royer-Greaves will support the school’s vocational programming initiatives for the individuals it serves, organizers said.
Founded by middle and high school students, Drishti Foundation operates with a mission to support blind and visually impaired individuals while fostering a spirit of service among young people and adults. The organization draws inspiration from Helen Keller’s words: “Because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.”
Since its establishment, Drishti has organized various fundraising efforts, including campaigns for cataract surgeries for underserved populations, scholarships for blind students, and medical care for visually impaired children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation raised funds to provide medical equipment to affected communities, including schools serving disabled students.
The organization has collaborated with numerous local and national groups, including the Chester County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Vision Corps, the American Council for the Blind, Children’s Eye Foundation, Overbrook School for the Blind, and the Society for the Blind. Internationally, Drishti has supported schools for blind children in India and Nepal through educational initiatives and equipment sponsorship.
Individuals interested in participating in the September 7 event can find registration information through the organization’s official channels.
The run/walk represents part of Drishti’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness and funds for programs supporting the blind and visually impaired community in Pennsylvania and beyond.
