Patricide in Paramus: Malayalee Man Arrested for Murdering His Father in New Jersey Home

An Indian American man has been arrested for murdering his father in their home in Paramus, New Jersey, last week. Melvin Thomas, 32, was taken into custody on Feb. 16, after his 61-year-old father, Manuel Thomas (top photo inset), was found dead in the basement of their home, according to the the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. He had sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said. 

The young Indian American man himself has contacted law enforcement to report the homicide he had committed, according to news reports. He has been charged with murder, desecration of human remains, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon, and hindering. He is being held at the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance. Melvin Thomas is single and unemployed.

Neighbors told news media that the father and son lived at home. According to Daily Voice Paramus, Melvin Thomas lost his mother, Lissy, in 2021. She and his father, Manuel Thomas’s were married for 36 years. The couple had three children including Melvin — son Levin and daughter Ashley. No details are available on those two. The Daily Voice Paramus reported that police had escorted Ashley to the home after the murder.
