A 21-year-old Indian American woman has been charged for driving while intoxicated after she was involved in a crash that injured five people including her, herself included, according to an alert from the Nassau County Police Department in New York.

Dilmeet Kaur of Floral Park was driving a 2019 BMW X3 in Long Island, New York town on May 16, when she collided with another car. “The 2004 Nissan SUV was being driven by a 34-year-old woman headed southbound,” the police said, adding that the car had two women “trapped inside.”

Once the police arrived, they immediately began “to render aid to all victims involved in the collision,” the police said. Nassau police medics and firefighters from New Hyde Park and Manhasset freed the women from the Nissan and brought them to local hospitals.

Kaur was treated for a broken hand and injuries to her arm, while the passenger was treated for a lower left leg compound fracture and a fractured femur in her right leg, the police said. Kaur was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular assault, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and driving while intoxicated.
