Longtime Hillary Clinton Aide Huma Abedin Engaged to Billionaire Scion Alex Soros

- The son of billionaire hedge fund manager and Democratic donor George Soros proposed marriage to the 47-year-old daughter of an Indian father and a Pakistani mother, six weeks ago.

A few months after they made their romance public, Huma Abedin and Alex Soros are engaged. The chairman of Open Society Foundations and son of billionaire hedge fund manager and Democratic donor George Soros, proposed to Hillary Clintonâs longtime aid, ix week ago, Page Six reported, adding that the two took a trip to Italy to celebrate.
Abedin, 47, and Soros, 38, met last fall at a mutual friendâs birthday party, according to Vogue. They âquickly discovered their mutual interests in politics and public service,â the magazine added. Since then, the two have been spotted at âseveral high-profile engagements together,â Vogue said, including a White House state dinner honoring the Kenyan president, William Ruto, and the 2024 Met Gala.
The coupleâs relationship is âeffortless,â a friend of Andean told Page Six. âAfter a lot of tumultuous years for Huma, sheâs relaxed and happy and in love,â the friend added.
Abedin, the daughter of an Indian father and a Pakistani mother, was married to former congressman Anthony Weiner for seven years â during which time he became embroiled in multiple sex scandals. She made headlines in 2011 after Weiner was accused of sending sexual messages and photos to various women. She âinitially stood by Weinerâs side,â Us magazine reported at the time, but she later announced their separation after he admitted to sexting with a 15-year-old girl. âAfter long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband,â she told Us in a statement in August 2016. She filed for divorce from Weiner in 2017 after the ex-congressman was sentenced to nearly two years in prison for sexting with a 15-year-old girl. The couple share a son together.
Abedin has spent her entire career in public service and national politics, beginning as an intern in First Lady Hillary Clintonâs office in 1996. After four years in the White House, she worked in the U.S. Senate as senior advisor to Senator Clinton and was traveling chief of staff for Clintonâs 2008 presidential campaign. In 2009, she was appointed deputy chief of staff at the Department of State. She served as vice chair of Hillary for America in 2016, which led to the first woman elected nominee of a major political party.
Her memoir, âBoth/And: A Life in Many Worlds,â was published in 2021. It explores the power of family, friendship, and commitment as well as âthe feelings of love, loss, betrayal, trauma, re-birth.
